I specifically reserved a smoke free room. When we got to the hotel and I opened the room door, the stench of stale smoke hit me like a brick wall. When I asked the desk clerk about it, she told me that all rooms in Wisconsin are now smoke free and that it was more than likely a smoking room prior to the change in law. Since the law will probably not change, Microtel should spend the extra money to clean the carpets, furniture, drapes, and bedding. I can not tell you how much of a turn off it is to walk into that environment as a non smoker.

Cheap but smelly

The hotel was SMELLY. No other rooms available and the front desk offered NO compensation. In fact she told ME to go tell housekeeping, I think that is HER job! Bathroom was DIRTY. There was hair all over the floor and then more findings on the carpet. Also, NO hair dryer. Bed was comfortable. It wasn't too loud. Price was good. Good location by the mall and just off the interstate.

Although I expected the room to be a bit smaller, it was a very small room. It seemed a bit cramped to me, with only room to walk around the bed. (I booked a room with one queen-sized bed.) The bed was very comfortable with good quality bedding. The room was also very quiet. The front desk staff were the only ones I was in contact with but were very pleasant. I didn't receive any information from them in regardsto any continental breakfast available or any of the amenities of the facility. The property was clean and well kept inside and out. I will be traveling to the Appleton area again and will be booking at this property.

We have stayed at this location many times since they opened, but we were very disappointed in what we experienced upon this visit. The young man at the desk was extremely pleasant and accomodating, as always.The bedding in our room was worn and had holes in it. The walls were paper thin and it was difficult to get a good night's rest. In the morning as we were leaving, we found the desk girl outside by the front door smoking - very unappealing and unprofessional. Too bad that they are allowing this motel to deteriorate this way!

The best part about the Microtel in Appleton was the comfortable beds and pillows. Nothing is worse when you stay in a hotel & the bedding is WAY over worn. This place was great, very clean and extremely friendly and comfortable. Best place to stay in Appleton for the price! I'd stay again.
